John Darnielle en zijn band Mountain Goats gingen in maart 2020 met z’n allen de legendarische Sam Phillips Recording Studio van Memphis in. Gewapend met een flinke vracht nieuwe songs had het viertal goesting om weer met producer Matt Ross-Spang te werken. Hij had ook ‘League With Dragons’ gedaan en dat beviel alle partijen enorm. Dat The Cramps in dezelfde studio hun debuut op hebben genomen in 1980 was een onschatbare positieve katalysator. The result is Getting Into Knives, the perfect album for the millions of us who have spent many idle hours contemplating whether we ought to be honest with ourselves and just get massively into knives.
