Lid van supergroep Painted Shield met o.a. Stone Gossard (Pearl Jam) en Brittany Davis. Oorspronkelijk uit in 2000. Op zijn tweede album bevestigt hij z’n krachtige stijl als singer-songwriter. Hij zingt in de eerste persoon over denkbeeldige plattelandsfiguren. Jennings wordt veelvuldig met Dave Matthews vergeleken. Birds Flying Away' is the portrait of a thoughtful 25 year-old discovering the world and his responsibility to be a positive voice.
